Tipu for concerted efforts to face post-LDC challenge

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said all concerned will have to work together for facing the challenges after the country's graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), reports BSS.

"Our readymade garment (RMG) sector has achieved success by overcoming many challenges. We are facing different challenges in different sectors. Around 45 lakh (4.5 million) workers are working in the RMG sector," he said.

The minister said this at a roundtable on 'Changing Situation of the Global Trade: How much ready our clothing sector' at a city hotel on Thursday, said a press release.

The Daily Bonik Barta organised the roundtable with the assistance of the Standard Chartered Bank.

Tipu Munshi emphasised on developing skills of the workforce in the RMG sector to reduce dependence on skilled foreign manpower. "The government is taking different steps for ensuring smooth environment of business in the country. We are modernising the ports for accelerating export and import," he mentioned.

The minister said the government is working for building capacity of ports. "Bangladesh will have to move forward by overcoming all challenges in the competitive world.Challenges will come. We will have to move forward by overcoming all challenges," he added.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Rubana Huq, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Vice President Md Siddiqur Rahman and Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Director General Dr KAS Murshid were present at the meeting, presided over by Editor of the Daily Bonik Barta Dewan Mahmud Hanif.
