Titas evicts 17,240ft illegal gas-lines

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited in separate drives uprooted a total of 17,240 feet illegal pipelines of different sizes over the last two days till Tuesday from various parts of the country, according to a press release.

The press release, issued Wednesday, said the drives, conducted under the supervision of its executive magistrates, were launched at Korail slum of the capital, Tongibari of Ashulia, Shibpur of Narsingdi, Ghatarchar and Bhakurta of Jinjira, and Shuvulla, Kumarjani and Gorail rail station areas of Mirzapur in Tangail.

The company also temporally suspended 11 officials and employees for their involvement in providing illegal gas connections.

"Seven of them were terminated by the authority, and 29 contracting firms were also blacklisted for the unethical practices," the statement said.

It said a total of 75,000 feet illegal gas pipelines were pulled out until March 19 from the first day of the drive, initiated on February 16.

The company also requested people to refrain from such wrongdoings to avert legal actions.
