Titas to install 8,600 pre-paid meters in city

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited are going to install 8600 pre-paid gas meters in Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas of the capital.

In this connection, an agreement was signed between Titas Gas and Itron Metering Systems Singapore Pte Ltd in the city Tuesday.

Secretary of Titas Gas Moshtaq Ahmed and Senior Director (Sales) of Itron Metering Systems Malcolm Munro signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

The initiative has been taken to improve the service of residential gas subscribers and to check the wastage of natural gas under the project named 'Supply efficiency improvement of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd.'

The total cost of the project is Tk 115 million. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the government of Bangladesh will jointly bear the project cost.

Implementation of the project will start from June 2014. As per the agreement, the installation of 8600 pre-paid meters will be completed by March 2015.

Among others, Titas Gas Managing Director Md Nowshad Islam was present at the deal signing ceremony.

Earlier, 4,500 pre-paid gas meters were installed in Lalmatia and Mohammadpur areas of the capital under a pilot project.
