Tk 1.14b JU budget approved

A Tk 1.14 billion ( 114.65 crore) budget of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was passed Friday for the fiscal year 2014-15 with a deficit financing of nearly Tk 222.50 million.
The budget was passed at the senate meeting presided over by JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam.
A Tk 1.04 billion revised budget for the JU was also passed for the last fiscal year 2013-2014.
Treasurer Prof Abul Khayer presented the budgets in the 33rd budget session attended by senate members.
According to the budget, the university will earn Tk 50 million from its own sources for the FY 2014-15 while the rest will come from the University Grants Commission.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Farzana Islam urged the government to increase the budget in the education sector in the fields of research, academic activities, students' facilities and infrastructural development.
She said the Sheikh Hasina dormitory had been opened early and three other dormitories were under constructed which would help solve the accommodation problem of the students.
She also vowed to curb the session jam, drug abuse, terrorism on the
university campus at any cost and sought cooperation from all concerned.
Pro-VC Dr Prof Abul Hossen and Registrar Abu Bakkar Siddique thanked the guests and senate members for their participation.
