Tourism ministry seeks addl Tk 150m allocation

The ministry of civil aviation and tourism has sought an additional allocation of Tk 150 million for tourism board to successfully carry out the preparatory activities of Tourism Year 2016, officials said. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon had sent a letter to Finance Minister AMA Muhith, seeking the allocation of extra funds. The prime minister will inaugurate tourism year on January 01, 2016 in presence of local and foreign guests. "It is high time to start the preparatory work for the year aiming to earn foreign currency by attracting foreign tourists," the minister in his letter said. A ministry official said they have to chalk out different publicity and awareness programmes on the occasion of tourism year. "So, a large volume of funds will be needed urgently." A finance ministry official said they have recently received a letter sent by the ministry of tourism, seeking an additional allocation of Tk 150 million.     — FE Report
