Traders in the city expressed mixed reaction over sales of vegetables while mentioning that the prices of these showed a downtrend during the two-day-long hartal on Wednesday and Thursday.
A number of the traders said the sale of winter vegetables was poor despite hartal while the others were of the opposite opinion.
Sumon, a vegetable vendor at Mohammadpur kitchen market, said: "We have enough collection of vegetables but the sale was hampered as the number of customers was not satisfactory."
On the other hand, Solaiman, a vegetable vendor at Krishi market, said: "I received a good number of customers Thursday though it was a hartal day and the prices of vegetables were rather low compared to the previous week."
According the to the retailers, a kilogram (kg) of bean sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50, long bean at Tk 50, cauliflower at Tk 25 to 30, cabbage at Tk 20 to Tk 30, radish at Tk 25 to Tk 30, tomato at Tk 80, green tomato at Tk 60, olive at Tk 30 to Tk 40 and carrot at Tk 60.
Meanwhile, a kg of green chili sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100, cucumber at Tk 30 to Tk 40, brinjal at Tk 40, ladies finger at Tk 35 to Tk 40, papaya at Tk 15 to Tk 20, pointed gourd at Tk 40, potato at Tk 25 and bitter gourd at Tk 40.
A piece of gourd sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50, a 'hali' (four pieces) of green banana sold at Tk 20 while a 'hali' of lemon at Tk 15 to Tk 20.
