Training to enrich environ of EPZs on at BEPZA

BEPZA has organised a three-week training for its officers to improve their environmental management skill and performance of industrial operations in the export processing zones (EPZs)
Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has organised the training under the Capacity Building project of BEPZA supported by World Bank in collaboration with the Military Institute of Science & Technology (MIST), said a press release.
Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan ndc, psc, inaugurated the training as the chief guest at the MIST in the city on Sunday.
In his address, the BEPZA chairman said, "This training will be educative and valuable in meeting environmental management skills and performance of industrial operations in different EPZs".
Recognising the need for such training, he said this training is being conducted to train the officers of BEPZA to improve their environmental management skill and performance of industrial operations in EPZs.
General Habib said BEPZA recognises the need to monitor and enforce environmental compliance at different types of industries in eight EPZs of the country.
He mentioned that the primary objective of an EPZ is to provide special industrial enclave where potential investors would find a congenial investment environment, free from all sort of cumbersome procedures and vision of the BEPZA is to build a stronger and economically prosperous Bangladesh.
He said that 38 officers including Environment Counselors of the BEPZA will undergo this intensive training on various issues of environmental management and such awareness and capacity building will definitely facilitate institutionalisation of environmental compliances across the EPZs.
This training will enhance the knowledge of our BEPZA officials defiantly, which has a great impact on improving environmental sector in EPZs of Bangladesh, he added.
