The national budget for fiscal year (FY) 2014-15 has proposed to increase travel tax for air, land and waterway freight.
The newly proposed travel tax rate for SAARC countries has been raised to Tk 1,200 through airways as per the Foreign Travel Tax Rate Fixation Rules 2014 against the existing rate is Tk 1,000.
The travel tax for South or North America, Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Far East countries has been proposed to increase to Tk 4,000 for FY 2014-15 through airways while the present rate is Tk 3,000.
For other countries, the travel tax has been proposed to be hiked to Tk 3,000 which is now Tk 2,500 through airways.
For travel by land route, the travel tax has been proposed to increase to Tk 500 from Tk 300 and for waterways to be raised to Tk 800 from Tk 500.
