UAE businesses seek to invest in Bangladesh

Businesses and entrepreneurs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are interested in investing in Bangladesh and hiring skilled manpower from the country.

Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, president and CEO of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, made the remark during a meeting with Mahbubul Alam, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), held in Dubai, UAE, recently, says a press release on Saturday.

Mr Lootah said that a team has already been formed by the Dubai Chamber to explore the investment potentials in Bangladesh.

He also expressed the interest in hiring skilled manpower from Bangladesh.

In response, Mahbubul Alam assured that all kinds of support would be provided to the investors of the UAE.

He said the UAE has always stood by Bangladesh as one of the partners in the economic development of the country.

Hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi remitters are working in the UAE and sending their hard-earned income back home to strengthen the country's economy, he added.

The FBCCI president listed various initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government to attract foreign investments.

He highlighted the success stories of countries like Japan, India, and Korea that have already invested in Bangladesh's Export Processing Zones.

Mr Alam also drew attention to the vast investment potential in Chittagong, Payra, and Matarbari deep-sea ports.

He urged the UAE companies to consider Bangladesh's globally recognised sectors, such as garment, ceramics, leather goods, and jute and jute goods, for investment.

Dubai Chamber President Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah also called upon Bangladeshi businessmen to invest in Dubai.

FBCCI Directors Mohammad Fayazur Rahman Bhuiyan and Fakhorus Salehin Nahian, among others, were present at the meeting.
