The UAE government has expressed its willingness to recruit manpower from Bangladesh on a large scale.
A high-powered delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government-owned manpower recruiting company expressed the intention Thursday at a meeting with Bangladeshi officials.
Welcoming the UAE move, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment secretary Khandaker Shawkat Hossain said this significant development to expand the market came through diplomatic communication between the two countries over a long period of time.
Based on minutes of Thursday's meeting, Dhaka and Abu Dhabi will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the end of April, the secretary said after the meeting.
Although initially the delegation showed interest to recruit more female workers from Bangladesh, they also expressed willingness to recruit male workers in different sectors including skilled professionals and technicians etc.
The meeting discussed different issues of labour migration process including migration cost, salary structures, workers' rights, heath and medical facilities, post-accident support etc, he said.
Mr Hossain said foreign workers will have a great opportunity to be employed in the Middle Eastern country on the eve of 'Expo 2020 Dubai.'
"We will try to tap the potentials by sending Bangladeshi workers there," he said.
The UAE delegation visited the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) to see its activities and two training centres for women workers.
They have expressed satisfaction over training system and migration process, said the secretary.
He said the trend of labour migration to the UAE is slow now, though about 1.0 million Bangladeshis are working there.
UAE, the lone highest manpower receiving country, suspended issuing visas for Bangladeshi job seekers in 2012.
