UAE keen to recruit skilled manpower from BD: Minister

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will recruit skilled manpower from Bangladesh, said Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain Wednesday.

He said the Middle Eastern country showed interest to import skilled manpower including doctors, nurses and engineers etc as per their need.  

The minister said this after the courtesy visit of the newly appointed UAE ambassador in Dhaka Saeed Bin Hajar Al-Shehi to his office on the day.

But the labour receiving country did not clear when it will resume its market for Bangladeshi workers.

In 2012 the UAE restricted visa for Electricians, pipe fitters, masons, farmers, drivers, tailors and cleaners from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

Secretary to the ministry Khandaker Shawkat Hossain, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Director General Begum Shamsun Nahar, among others were present during the press briefing.

While briefing the press the minister also said the UAE did not stop hiring Bangladeshi manpower but it put embargo on unskilled workers.

He, however, said it stopped issuing visa for Bangladeshi labourers following propaganda by some competitor countries.
