‘Use of time-befitting tech’ needed to attract investment

Use of time-befitting technologies is crucial to attract and facilitate investment in the country.
This was observed at a workshop organised by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Swisscontact at the BIDA headquarters in the city on Thursday.
The workshop marked the opening of a series of events under Bangladesh Investment Climate Improvement (BICI) Programme launched by the BIDA, according to a statement.
BIDA Executive Chairman Lokman Hossain Miah attended it as the chief guest. Its Executive Member Mohsina Yasmin and Team Leader of PRABRIDDHI Markus Ehman were also present on the occasion, among others.
Representatives from different ministries, divisions and agencies joined the workshop.
The statement said National Committee for Monitoring Implementation of Doing Business Reforms (NCMID) chaired by the Cabinet Secretary decided to prepare an action plan taking into consideration the socio-economic context of Bangladesh and designed and launched the BICI programme.
The programme encompasses 110 identified reforms under seven pillars, with seven working groups formed to oversee each pillar's updates against the backdrop of scrapping the Ease of Doing Business programme by the World Bank.
PRABRIDDHI, a local economic development project, jointly funded by Switzerland and the Government of Bangladesh, aims to support BIDA in achieving the objectives of the BICI programme by facilitating collaboration between the BIDA and the Local Government Division (LGD), the statement added.
"The BICI programme is all about helping Bangladesh grow. If investment is increased in Bangladesh, many people will be benefited," Lokman Hossain Miah was quoted as saying in the statement.
