The National Board of Revenue has waived value-added tax (VAT) on subscription to online journals and database by the Bangladesh Academy of Science for its scientists, academicians and researchers.
The exemption will remain valid until June 30, 2021.
The VAT wing of the revenue board has issued a special order on October 25, offering the exemption following the entity's request.
The academy as a non-profit sought exemption on import of online journals, books and database access-related services.
The order, signed by first secretary (VAT policy wing) Kazi Farid Uddin, said the country's scientists and researchers receive assistance from the academy.
Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University, North South University, BRAC and ICDDRB are the active members of the academy.
