Prices of vegetables and ginger witnessed further reduction while onion increased in the city kitchen markets on Friday compared to that of its previous price levels.
Prices of cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, local bean, long bean, pointed gourd, bitter gourd, sponge gourd, snake gourd, bottle gourd, papaya, radish, green banana (kacha kola) and all kinds of vegetable leaf reduced by Tk2-10 at per kg or per piece or per bunch on the day.
Cauliflower, cabbage sold at Tk15-25 per piece based on their size, tomato sold at Tk80-100 per kg, local bean at Tk40-60 based on their quality, long bean at Tk40-50 per kg, papaya at Tk18-20 per kg, radish at Tk15-20 per kg, pointed gourd at Tk30-35 per kg, coriander leaf at Tk160-180 per kg, mustard seed plant
at Tk5-6 per bunch, spinach at Tk6-8 per bunch on Friday, according to key kitchen markets in the city.
Sabbir Ali, a retailer at Bonolota Kicthen Amrket under Newmarket area said supply of winter crops increased significantly nin the city's wholesale markets with lower price.
The prices started reducing for last two weeks as farmers are sending a plenty of seasonal crops.
Local bean prices reduced to Tk145-150 per palla on Friday which was 250 per palla (5 kg) a week back.
New potato prices also reduced by Tk10-15 per kg, he said.
However, newly harvested potato (known as Notun Alu) sold at Tk85-100 per kg in the city's different kitchen markets.
Among the vegetables, prices of clocasia crops like eddo, clocasia stem and leaves, clocasia esculenta (shola kochu) prices increased slightly in the market.
Eddo sold at Tk 40-45 per kg, clocaisa stem at Tk45-50 per kg, shola kochu at Tk45-50 per kg, clocasia leaves at Tk8-10 per bunch on Friday---Tk2-5 increase at per kg/per bunch.
Ginger sold at Tk80-100 per kg on Friday which was Tk100-120 per kg seven days back.
Md Arifur Rahman, a wholesaler at Beribadh adjacent to Nowabganjbazar in the city said production of vegetable is outstanding this year due to timely rain and flood in August-October period which brought lots of silt.
He said the price of vegetable will reduce further in coming days if the transportation remains normal.
