Prices of all sorts of vegetables are showing an upward trend following the vacation of Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja, traders said.
They said the supply of vegetables is slow due to transportation disruption during the days of festivity while the demand is also low as most of the city dwellers are yet to return after celebrating the two festivals.
Md Sohel, a vegetable seller at Mohammadpur kitchen market, said: "I started selling vegetables from today (Thursday). Prices of all sorts of vegetables are high as a small number of trucks are coming to the city with the holiday mood still continuing among them."
"I've so far sold vegetables worth less than Tk 5,000 whereas I usually sell vegetables worth Tk 14,000 to 15,000 per day," he said.
In the retail market, the traders said, a kilogram of tomato was selling at Tk 140-150, green chili at Tk 100-110, ladies finger at Tk 50-60, carrot at Tk 50-60, bean at Tk 100-110, brinjal at Tk 50-55.
