WB to fund jewellery skill dev programme

The World Bank (WB) will finance a training programme for developing technical skills in the country's jewellery industry.
Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJ) will implement the training programme with support of the Directorate of Technical Education under the World Bank's Accelerating and Strengthening Skills for Economic Transformation (ASSET) Project.
A total of 300 people associated with the jewellery industry will be given training initially through BJA Institute.
The training is aimed at increasing the standard of technical skills in the jewellery industry.
A three-month training on jewellery manufacturing, design, design cad operation and sales and marketing along with skill development will be provided under the project.
To this effect, the BJA and WB penned a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
BJA general secretary Badal Chandra Roy and WB project director for Asset Project Abu Momtaz Saaduddin Ahmed signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at a programme in the city on Thursday.
BJA vice-president Gulzar Ahmed, among others, was present at the signing ceremony.
