CHITTAGONG, Nov 6: Western Marine Shipyard inaugurated the construction work of a 25-ton BP tugboat for Chittagong Port Authority through a keel laying ceremony today (Thursday) at its shipyard in Chittagong. Deputy Conservator of Chittagong Port Authority Captan Nazmul Alam along with Deputy Chief Engineer (Marine) Khurshed Alam and Chief Audit Officer Md Rafikul Alam were present on the occasion on behalf of the port authority. The project for building the new tugboat is Tk 164.60 million and the tug will be delivered to the CPA in 18 months. The new building of the tugboat will be supervised by classification society ClassNK. General Manager of ClassNK Chittagong MF Karim was also present to hand over the keel laying certificate to the Western Marine Shipyard and Chittagong Port Authority. Western Marine already handed over one 60-ton BP tugboat to the port authority last month which is known to be the most high power tug in Bangladesh.  The Chittagong Port Authority is hopeful that this tug will enhance port capacity in future. Management of the shipyard hopes to work in more shipbuilding projects of Chittagong Port so that the company can also contribute in the domestic market apart from building ships for the export market.
