Prices of local garlic slightly went up in the wholesale market in last one week as some traders trying to stockpile the local variety, traders said."The harvesting of local garlic is going on. Dried garlic is selling at slightly higher at the farm level," Narayan Shaha, a garlic wholesaler of Shyambazar, told the FE. He alleged a section of traders are hoarding the newly harvested garlic to make more profit in future and for this reason the price of local garlic is going up. The wholesale price of one kg local garlic was between Tk 28 and Tk 30 depending on quality on Tuesday while it was sold at Tk 25 to Tk 26 last week. The retail price of local garlic was Tk 50 to Tk 80 a kg that was sold at Tk 40 to Tk 80 depending on quality, according to the different kitchen market in the city. The country produces 0.27 million tonnes of garlic annually against the demand is above 0.48 million tonnes, according to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) data.
