RAJSHAHI, June 1 (BSS): State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, MP, said here Sunday women are keeping the country's development wheel moving through their laudable contributions.
She expressed the view that women are contributing a lot to the nation-building process and there is no way to ignore their contributions.
She was inaugurating a five-day training workshop styled "My Family, My Flower Garden" at the Human Resource Development Training Centre (HRDTC) in Rajshahi city.
The HRDTC, run by the Department of Women Affairs, is conducting the training aiming at making the women organisations more strengthened, effective and organised.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Akhter Jahan, MP, Director General of the Directorate of Women Affairs Ashraf Hossain, Director Jakiya Yeasmin Zoarder and social worker Shaheen Akter Rainy also spoke as special guests.
Meher Afroz said creation of new women leadership has become an urgent need for substantial and sustainable flourishing of women.
She said the present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing many diversified and need-oriented projects.
"We are committed to transforming the members of voluntary women organisations into skilled workforce," she said adding that there is no alternative to training for human resource development and that can be the effective means of taking the nation forward.
Besides, she called upon the trainees to motivate other women to avail themselves of the training opportunities for improving their living and livelihoods.
Lawmaker Mr Badsha said the women organisations should work together for improving their competence so that their income generating activities function properly with the ultimate goal of poverty alleviation and self-reliance.
Some non-formal learning matters including family planning, nutrition, sanitation, legal rights, childcare and early childhood development are also included in the course.
