Youth ministry seeks Tk 1.20b more for next FY

FE Report | February 24, 2015 00:00:00

The ministry of youth and sports (MoY&S) has sought an additional allocation of Tk 1.20 billion from the ministry of finance (MoF) in the budget for next fiscal year (FY) to complete its different projects smoothly, officials said.

As Department of Youth Development (DYD) and National Sports Council (NSC) have taken up different projects, they said, it is urgently needed to revise the budget ceiling for FY 2015-16 under medium budgetary framework (MTBF) to execute the projects.

The government has earmarked Tk 8.58 billion for next FY under MTBF which is insufficient, the officials added.

At present, some 17 upazilas in 17 districts have been brought under the national service programme which is being implemented by DYD. So, an additional allocation will be needed for operation of the programme properly. Besides, more allocation will be required to meet the needs of DYD.

The 4th Indo-Bangla Games will be held in Dhaka in April 2015. Besides, Bangladesh will participate in the fifth Commonwealth Youth Games, Samoa and the 12th Asian Games in India. As a result, some Tk 360 million will be needed for organisation, participation and pre-practice, sources said.

Youth and Sports Secretary Nur Mohammad recently sent a letter to the senior secretary of the MoF, seeking an extra allocation.

In the letter, the secretary had also sought to increase the budgetary ceiling for FYs 2016-17 and 2017-18.
