Zaber & Zubair unveils value-added fabrics with low-resource dyeing technique

Textile manufacturer Zaber & Zubair Fabrics Ltd has developed a new dyeing technique that helps cut processing time by 85 per cent while significantly reducing water, energy and chemical consumption, as the company moves to produce more sustainable, value-added fabrics for global brands.
The company unveiled the innovation alongside its Autumn/Winter 2027-28 collection at the 18th edition of its annual Fabric Week, held in Dhaka from July 14 to 19.
"We have reduced water, energy and chemical consumption by introducing a new solid dyeing technique through process improvements," said Md Shofiqur Rahman, Executive Director of Zaber & Zubair.
"The innovation will help reduce the industry's environmental footprint," he told The Financial Express.
Mr Rahman said the conventional over-dyeing process takes nearly 200 minutes, whereas the new technique requires only about 30 minutes, reducing processing time by 85 per cent and making production far less resource-intensive.
The technique was developed with the support from Archroma, a global specialty chemicals company, he said.
Using the new process, the company has introduced a new range of non-denim woven fabrics produced through advanced sustainable washing techniques.
The technique enables the development of six colour shades while using fewer resources, and the products have received encouraging responses from international buyers, he said.
The newly developed fabrics also received positive feedback from buyers during his last week business visit to Spain, Mr Rahman added.
Beyond process innovation, the company is expanding its portfolio of value-added textiles through the development of advanced fabrics blended with Merino wool and other sustainable fibres, he mentioned.
Subhasish Bose, Senior AGM (Product Development) at Zaber & Zubair Fabrics, said the company has partnered with Australia's leading wool supplier, EQ Wool, to develop premium Merino wool fabrics.
For the first time, the company has developed 15 wool-based fabric innovations, blending Merino wool with sustainable fibres such as Tencel and Modal to produce high-value fabrics with enhanced comfort, durability and performance.
He said the company has also introduced fabrics dyed with colourants derived from recycled garments.
In addition, the use of long-lasting dyes enables the fabrics to retain their original appearance for around 20 washes, compared with only about five washes for conventionally dyed fabrics.
The six-day exhibition featured 290 fabric qualities, including 240 newly developed products and 50 textile innovations, made from wool blends, recycled materials, hemp, pineapple fibres, Tencel, ECOVERO and other sustainable raw materials.
According to the company, more than 400 visitors, including international buyers and sourcing executives, attended the exhibition.
