Zakat fair opens in city tomorrow

A two-day 'Zakat Fair 2014' will begin tomorrow (Friday) at the National Shooting Federation Complex in the capital to create awareness among the people about the importance of fifth pillar of Islam.

Member secretary of the fair organising committee Khandoker Zakaria Ahmed, told the journalists that state minister for finance MA Mannan, MP will formally inaugurate the event as chief guest.

Mr Ahmed who is also Managing Director of the Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) was speaking at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Wednesday.

Exim Bank Senior Vice President AQM Safiullah, programme manager, Islamic Relief Bangladesh, Mainuddin Ahmed, among others, were present on the occasion. Centre for Zakat Management (CZM), Muslim Aid Bangladesh, Islamic Relief Bangladesh, Exim Bank and Society for Social and Technological Support are jointly organising the fair.

Mr Ahmed said it is the second fair where a total of 27 stalls including CZM will be opened. Visitors will find necessary information about Zakat-related rules and regulations.

In addition, the visitors will find necessary consultancy free of cost on the spot how the business goods could be calculated for the Zakat distribution properly.    

He said during the festival, at least four seminars will be arranged at the venue where leading local and international Islamic scholars will address highlighting the issue.

The fair will remain open for the visitors from 9 am to 8 pm everyday.
