‘BD shows success in fulfilling MDG goals’

Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad M Fazley Rabbi Mia said in the city Monday that Bangladesh achieved tremendous success in fulfilling the targets of Millennium Development Goals (MDG), reports BSS.
"Bangladesh has set an example in the world in reducing severe poverty and poverty alleviation, enrollment of hundred per cent children in the primary education, reducing child and mother mortality rate and enhancing women empowerment", said the Deputy Speaker.
The Deputy Speaker was speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting with the lawmakers at a city hotel .
Family Planning Assoc-iation of Bangladesh (FPAB) organised the function with its president Prof Khaleda Khanam in the chair.
The deputy speaker also urged the policymakers to fix up the national development issues on a priority basis so that the government could pragmatically set the development targets. The development plans must be targeted for the improvement of the lot of common people particularly the poor and under privileged one, he said.
Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP, Panchanon Biswas, MP, Selina Jahan Lita, MP, Feroza Begum Chinu, MP, Fazilatunnesa Indira, MP, representatives from diplomatic missions, international donor agencies, executives from different government and non-government organistions, among others, were present.
