RANGPUR, Aug 29 (BSS): Chairman of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) Professor Dr Shah Nawaz Ali Saturday directed its officials for disbursing easy-term loans among farmers considering losses they incurred due to heavy rains.
He was addressing a special workshop organised for its all Branch Managers under Rangpur division on 'Annual Work Plan-2015' at BRAC Training Centre in the city as the chief guest.
Training Institute of RAKUB and its Rangpur Divisional Office organised the workshop with Rangpur Divisional General Manager (GM) of RAKUB Mokhlesur Rahman in the chair.
Managing Director of RAKUB Manjur Ahmed, Rajshahi Divisional Deputy Director of the Fisheries Department Mahbub Ul Alam, Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director of the Animal Resources Department Shahidul Islam, Rangpur Regional Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension Mohammad Mohsin, Deputy Managing Director of RAKUB Dr Abdul Khaleque, GMs of its Head Office Abul Kashem and Reaz Uddin Mian and Rajshahi Divisional GM Emdadul Haque, addressed.
High officials of RAKUB, its nine Zonal Audit Officers, all nine Zonal Managers and all 184 Branch Managers of eight districts under Rangpur division participated in the workshop.
The speakers said the recent heavy rain falls and flood waters have caused damages to standing Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) crops on over 1.25 lakh hectares of land and loses of Tk 350 million to the fisheries sector in Rangpur division alone.
The farmers have incurred losses due to heavy rains, water-logging and floods and they utterly need adequate and easy-term agri-loans for recouping the losses through cultivating T-Aman and fish anew, they said.
They suggested RAKUB officials to become more attentive in considering the losses incurred by the affected farmers while disbursing easy-term loans among them in the northern region, commonly known as the country's food granary.
The present government puts maximum emphasis on maintaining the achieved status of self-reliance on food through providing assistance to the farmers for increasing crop production in achieving the Millennium Development Goals, they said.
The RAKUB Chairman directed the officials for proper implementation of the annual work plan during the current fiscal to enhance crop production, boost pisciculture, animal husbandry and other sectors to attain faster growth in rural country.
Increasing agricultural output would enhance supply of raw materials to the agro-based and other industries in boosting production and exports to earn more foreign exchange in improving the economy and life standard of the people, he said.
He asked RAKUB officials to work with utmost sincerity and accountability in enhancing economic activities through proper utilisation of existing capacities and natural resources available in the country's food granary of the northern region.
