‘Expatriates making contribution to economic progress’

KUSHTIA, Apr 11 (BSS) : Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu Saturday said Bangladeshi expatriates living around the world are making a significant contribution to expedite economic progress of the country by sending huge amount of remittances.
"Overseas Bangladeshis are lifeline of our economy as they are sending their hard-earned remittances in the country," he told a rally on the ground of Bheramara College here.
Afroza Haq Rina, wife of the information minister and convenor of Nari Jote, Syed Belal Hossain, deputy commissioner, Tohidul Islam Alam, Bheramara Upazila chairman and Shamimul Islam Sana, Bheramara Pourasabha chairman, among others, addressed the rally.
Several thousands of relatives of Bangladeshi expatriates under Bheremara upazila attended the rally.
 Mr Inu said the present government has attached highest priority to enhance the facilities of expatriates to boost flow of remittances to accelerate economic progress in the country.
"We are also taking skill enhancement programmes by incorporating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge to increase efficiency of overseas workers to ensure access to better job markets," he added.
The minister said the government is also taking measures to enhance security of Bangladesh expatriates for flourishing the sector.
