All about 'Tarabih' prayer

August 05, 2009 00:00:00

MUFTI Habibur Rahman's letter on saying the Tarabih prayer, which was published in The FE some days ago, drew my attention. According to the writer, Tarabih prayer that the Muslims say during Ramadan is not mentioned in the holy Quran and the holy Hadith. The writer further added that the 'sahabihs' of our greatest and most favourite Prophet (pbuh) did not say this prayer of Tarabih.
In reply to the writer, I would like to say that the holy Quran narrated the prayers and the holy Hadith explained how to perform that. Moreover, 20 'rak'ats' of Tarabih prayer were performed at the time of Hazrat Umar Faruq (R), the second caliph of Islam. So, the prayers of Thahazzud and Tarabih are not similar as the writer claimed in his letter.
