Anti-dumping measures for protecting domestic products

August 16, 2008 00:00:00

EVERY country maintains a standard to import products from other countries. But whatever the reasons, it is absent in our country. For this lack of standardisation, we find same products of different qualities in our market. Often sub-standard products are sold. It means a waste of money for the consumers. But there is no one to look into the matter. Foreign countries are dumping substandard products in this country without any dumping measures.

Recently, domestic manufacturers of small and medium industries highlighted the issue at a seminar. They alleged that some unscrupulous customs officials and pre-shipment inspection companies are facilitating such dumping, threatening domestic industries.

Bangladesh needs to formulate a better import policy to protect local products against dumping.
