Area-wise rickshaws

A fixed number of rickshaws are allowed to ply within the Mahakhali DOHS. The rickshaw pullers in the area have their identity cards. They charge fares at fixed rates. They earn enough to support these families. The passengers and rickshawpullers avoid the hassle of bargaining for fares. The pullers wait in a queue near the main road and pick the passengers one after another on the first-come-first-serve basis.
The system can be adopted in other areas of the city. Rickshaws are not allowed on the main roads in many areas of the city. But they can go from one mahallas to another through link lanes and by-lanes. If the number of rickshaws is fixed areawise, people can avail themselves of their services at fixed rates and change for going to other areas. We follow this system at the DOHS.
The ward commissioner's office can find out how many rickshaws a locality needs and provide identity cards to the pullers accordingly. The authorities can introduce the system following a realistic plan. It can free the main streets from the slow-moving rickshaws to improve the city's traffic.
