British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who is due to quit office on June 27, in his parting kick has sought to stoke ashes with the dubious intention of igniting fire again. He has succeeded in having controversial writer Salman Rushdie knighted.
This Indian-born writer, now a Sir, provoked commotion in the Muslim world by presenting his Satanic Verses, an ill-designed novel against Islam. This novel was created for the bad purpose of robbing the purses of the fundamentalists among Christians. This so-called novel greatly fuelled political Islam and its militancy.
Muslims should understand the purpose of Tony's last game. They should remain calm. I doubt, whether future history of long-term perspective will at all record this gentlemen as a benign statesman who has had interest in the unity of mankind.
