British Bangalees in British election
May 07, 2010 00:00:00
The British Bangalees played an important role in bringing back the Labour under Blair to power. Blair made a British Bangalee Anwar Choudhury British HC to Bangladesh. He ended the hereditory membership in House of Lords ushering a new era in British democracy. He created Scottish Parliament and Wales assembly and took up the cause of cultural pluralism.
But Blair ended in the quagmire of Iraq war when the overwhelmingly Muslim. British-Bangalees switched support from him. Gordon Brown does not have the aura of Blair. But the British Bangalees are playing a key role in the campaign. Whoever wins, the role of British Bangalees will be felt in British and European political scene.
Calcutta was the capital of British India for two hundred years and it was British India that gave glory to the Empire. It was with the Bangalee lashkar, the naval infantry that the British defeated other imperial powers.
Now, history has moved a full circle. In London, the capital of the British Empire, the Bangalees have won a commanding position. Bangalees are in all the parties but they have traditional links with Labour.
Britain should take a positive world outlook and end Islam phobia that is the overwhelming wish of British Bangalees.
