Challenge of democracy in Pakistan

October 29, 2007 00:00:00

WHAT can we say? Pakistan's 9/11, Benazir Bhutto's suicide welcome or invulnerable attack against global democracy.
Bhutto escaped unhurt from the twin bllasts that killed 136 people and wounded hundreds so far.
Bhutto certainly doesn't have to look very hard to find enemies as because there are a lot of people who love her and a lot who hate her.
Bangladesh should learn from the tragic incident in Pakistan.
As Bangladesh is still experiencing militancy and extremism, long term absence of democratic practices and public opinions may help to raise more militancy and extremism in the country.
In all previous democratic elections in Pakistan, extremist religious parties never have garnered more than 11 per cent of the vote, the same as in the various elections in Bangladesh too.
