Combating the city's air pollution

March 07, 2009 00:00:00

DUE to air pollution on average 150,000 people fall sick every year in Dhaka city. It points to the acute necessity to strengthen and enforce the existing rules and regulations against air pollution. The treatment costs the citizens a lot of money. They could, otherwise, spend the money.

There is no reason to take the pollution related costs lightly. The number of the sufferers from pollution, who need treatment, is rising despite the withdrawal of the highly polluting two-stroke three-wheelers from the city. Old buses and trucks also need to be withdrawn immediately. By repainting, these vehicles evaded withdrawal earlier.
