Commonman's plight in Pakistan

December 21, 2009 00:00:00

IT'S a very shocking news that a suicide bomber rammed a car into a mosque during Juma prayers the other day killing 11 people in northwest Pakistan, while a US missile strike pounded the troubled region leaving seven militants dead. The unrest comes as Pakistan wages multiple military offensives against Taliban insurgents across the northwest, prompting a wave of retaliatory suicide bombings hitting both security and civilian targets.
Pakistan stands today at the crossroads of indecision caused by weak leaders taking decisions on what they perceive as popular mandate. The plan to bifurcate Pakistan is one such decision. Opportunists have been quick to exploit the fallout of such a situation. The developments have accorded legality to roadblocks and violence and it is the helpless public who are the receiving end. In a way, the system is being hijacked to meet narrow ends. It is high time for Pakistan to take some harsh decisions to stop this.
People's opinion has no value in Pakistan. Politicians do whatever benefits them. No party is an exception.
