Displaying distance at busy points/prime locations
July 06, 2008 00:00:00
RECENTLY fare of diesel and gas-run bus/minibus has been increased by the government. Accordingly, fare of buses has been fixed for per kilometer in city area and long distances but unfortunately the city corporation authority did not display the chart of distances in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Barisal city corporation areas. As a result, owners of the buses realised more fare as they desire. There is no control to protect unjustified realisation of fare from the passengers.
Sometimes, bus conductors show a chart of different distances in Dhaka City Corporation which is signed by the so-called BRTA officials. But this chart is questionable to the general people as per the actual distances. As a result, quarrels also frequently occur between bus authority and passengers for unjustified demand/realisation of fares. We think this kind of chart is not justified at all. It is well known to all that BRTA is one of the most corrupt establishments and its personnel do not hesitate to sign anywhere with exchange of bribe. It is not reasonable to accept such a kind of chart. So it is very much essential to display chart of distances within city corporation areas to protect the interest of the citizens so that they can pay accurate transport fare. The city corporation mayors/ authorities are highly requested to display the same at prime visible points immediately.
