Dissatisfaction in education sector
October 14, 2010 00:00:00
We have seen two reports in the dailies that there are no primary schools in 131 villages in Kurigram district and 67 villages in Tangail district. The other districts of the country may have the same scenario. On the other hand, a few primary schools are getting laptops for better use of teaching-learning in those schools and in the near future all schools will get computers as it will be a compulsory subject.
Thirty government schools of 37 in Rajshahi division have no regular Headmasters for long and other divisions may have the same picture.
Note books and guide books are openly sold in the market and students are using them in the classroom instead of text books. Coaching business has reached a peak because it has been 'legalised' by the latest education policy.
Schools had to close before the Eid-ul-Fitr to ease traffic congestion! Ignoring merit in would-be teachers, huge amounts of money are allegedly being taken from the candidates by the ruling party members to get them jobs in the government primary schools! Around 20 thousand teachers of non-government colleges are waiting for getting time scale, some have reportedly spent huge amounts as bribe individually.
Primary school teachers are getting tired filling up a lot of forms, including irregular students' lists and visiting their houses to ensure 100 percent attendance in the schools by 2011, instead of studying and preparing their lessons! Corrupt officials and others are in good positions in the education administration.
What else remains to be done in digitalised Bangladesh?
