Effective steps are needed to address demographic boom

July 26, 2009 00:00:00

AN unchecked demographic boom has already created imbalances in the country's social system. This will eventually also affect its economic growth. The population growth is set to exercise pressure on our educational, health and social systems, on our society and job market.
The present government has pledged to bring all children to school by 2011. Let us not busy ourselves in counting heads day in and day out, but ensure a better standard of life for the vast populace of the country. We urge the policy-makers to take immediate steps to address the demographic boom with adequate social policies about the country's future.
