Fertiliser availability

December 02, 2007 00:00:00

FARMERS are unhappy as they are not getting the needed fertiliser supplies from the appointed shops or dealers. In most cases, the local stocks prove insufficient to meet the demand of the farmers, queuing up for fertiliser. Demonstrations or agitations result when they don't get it at all or get less than what they need. Newspapers have been reporting such incidents with the objective of drawing the attention of the authorities concerned to address the grievances of the farmers. Even if there is no supply-side problem here, the field level reality in terms of actual availability to the farmers is a matter of concern is different.
The government, doing a commendable work in some of the spheres, needs to give highest priority to making adequate quantity of fertiliser available at the farmers level and at fair prices. It is very important for agricultural productivity.
