Flying foreign flags: Is it not treason?

June 28, 2010 00:00:00

Dhaka is now a city of foreign flags. Flags of different contesting countries are seen fluttering atop buildings, from cornices, in cars and even motorbikes showing who supports which country in the grand football tournament. But are all other countries without a team in the World Cup so obsessed with expressing their addiction for the contest that they have forgotten national pride and identity to fly foreign flags forgetting and derogating their own national flag? Indeed this is very shameful. One can always enjoy World Cup matches without belittling the honour one's own country.
We know that the law of the land is against hoisting foreign flags indiscriminately here and there. The same are allowed to fly only in the premises of foreign missions. The exhibition or flying of foreign flags elsewhere is a punishable offence in this country. In fact, the same is legally tantamount to a treasonous act.
How is it then that the law is being violated so flagrantly in this respect and also reducing to dust all pride of this nation of over 150 million people?
