For the attention of Gulshan traffic boss
August 20, 2009 00:00:00
THE residents around Road (Lane) No. 126 of Gulshan-1, are facing unbearable traffic congestion beyond description every day right from the morning to late in the evening. The main reason is that there are three schools side by side, UROKID, Gulshan International and UTC. Throughout the whole day, all kinds of vehicles including large luxury jeeps coming to drop and pick up students are found parked on both sides of the road, rendering it to a mini-lane hardly allowing bothway traffic to pass. There is apparently no rule to use one vehicle to drop or pick up only one student causing traffic congestion but certainly illegal parking must not be allowed. The vehicles coming to drop students could leave immediately, instead of parking on both sides of the road waiting for hours to pick up the student when school hour finishes causing unbearable traffic congestion. Now a days drivers are provided with mobile phones and, therefore, could be easily called by a student for pick-up after the classes are over.
Meanwhile the transports could return home or wait at a more convenient place, instead of creating traffic jam before the school. Besides, due to traffic jam on the main avenue, all kinds of vehicles including mini buses, covered vans, mini trucks, rickshaw vans etcetera use Road No. 126, coming through Road No.127 via lakeside road, making it all the more impossible for the traffic to move. There are also hundreds of rickshaws plying on this road which is also adding salt to the wound.
We, therefore, appeal to the authorities to put an end to the illegal parking before these schools by imposing heavy fine on the defaulting vehicles.
Buses, covered wagons etcetera should be strictly prohibited from plying on this road and legal action may be taken against any such vehicle found. Frequent raid by the traffic Sergeant on this road and punishing the law breakers will go a along way in easing the traffic congestion on this road.
We suggest regular posting of a traffic police at the intersection of Road No 127 crossing to Road No 129 via Road No 126 before MANTRA departmental store. Will the authorities kindly do something ? The residents of the locality will remain ever grateful for the support.
