OUR government's revenue income is small and revenue expenditure is large. We do not cut our coat according to out cloth. We take recourse to more and more loans every year at the cost of our people, the majority of whom are living below poverty line.
We observe and find lavish and luxuriant expenditures in the following areas without any accountability and transparency:
Purchase, repair, maintenance and petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) of government transports, payment of salary and overtime allowance to car drivers. There is rampant misuse of government transports, fictitious and false entries in the car log books.
Frequent tours of ministers and top government officials to foreign countries without any significant result -- political, economical and financial benefit or gain.
Installations of air-conditioners, electric generators and IPS in the offices and residential houses of ministers and top government officials. This involves payment of a large amount of electricity and telephone bills from our public exchequer.
We feel and humbly request our political leaders, irrespective of positions, top government officials, VIPs, EIFs and all rich persons to observe austerity keeping in mind the socio-economic conditions and poor standard of living of our majority people.
Would our authorities concerned take necessary steps to do away with the untold sufferings of our people and kindly elaborate Article 19 (2) of our sacred Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh which says, "The State shall adopt effective measures to remove social and economic inequality between man and man and to ensure the equitable distribution of wealth among citizens, and of opportunities in order to attain a uniform level of economic development throughout the Republic" and to do the needful in the greater interest of our nation?
