Helping the victims of cyclone
November 18, 2007 00:00:00
The distressed people in the south and south western coastal areas of the country do need all kinds of support and help, both government and private, in this hour of distress. The cyclone, SIDR, has wrought a havoc in those areas. The preliminary report suggests that the extent of loss is severe. Full reports about the destruction caused by this cyclone will be coming in next two or three days following the restoration of normal communication with the distant areas in the battered coastal belt.
Pending that, all concerned should come forward to render all possible support for assuaging the miseries and sufferings of the most distressed segment of the population in the areas that have been ravaged by Friday's 'SIDR'. Food, clothing, drinking water, medicines etc., are the immediate needs and efforts should be made to targeting such supplies properly.
The distressed people will also need materials for reconstructing their damaged housing structures. We believe that the priorities for immediate and short-term supports would require to be identified properly on the basis of actual field-level reports.
