Helping the winter-hit poor

December 14, 2009 00:00:00

Every year, we witness in amazement, the poor suffering from severe cold. We often see people lying on the city walkways shivering or villagers dying.
Hardly do these inhuman scenes and news affect our conscience. Except some private and organisational initiatives, we, the affluent section of the society, seldom think of helping these poor in true sense.
We talk about introducing moral lessons in our curriculum, but, never take our children with us to provide warm cloths to these winter-hit people.
The social organisations should launch campaign for influencing the people to help them. Students can involve themselves in such humanitarian activity to improve their moral strength. If we can collect at least two pieces of warm cloths from each middle-income family and a lot more from the rich, we can be able to save thousands of lives.
Man is a social being. Without cooperation, it is difficult for us to survive on this earth. Therefore, it is high time that we stretch our helping hands to the suffering humanity.
