We, the Bangladeshi people, heartily congratulate the Beijing 2008 Olympic Organising Committee, for holding a phenomenal 29th Olympic Games. The opening ceremony was a most attractive and colourful at the Bird's Nest in Beijing.brThe Olympic Games gave China new credentials of what it can do.brCompetitors from all countries including war-ravaged and civil-war torn nations took part.brOn June 23, 1894, Pierre de Cubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in a ceremony held at the University of Sorbonne in Paris in France. Demetrius Vikelas from Greece became the first President of the IOC.brTwo years later, in 1896, the first modern Olympic Games was held in Athens in Greece.brThe modern Olympic spirit is symbolised by the Olympic flag, featuring five interlaced Olympic rings at the Centre on a white background.brThe heads of state and government, veteran politicians, veteran sports men and women, singers and others joined in the opening and the closing ceremonies in Beijing.brI would urge the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include 'one world' and 'world peace' with these two memorable slogans in the ensuing Olympic Games, as a campaign for world peace.brWould the IOC and the national Olympic committees look into the matter for consideration.brbrMohammad Anwarul QuadirbrAutograph-hunter, advocate andbrJournalist, Mati-Manzil,brMasterpara, Chakdev, brNaogaon
