Ignoring the Conqueror of Mt. Everest

November 14, 2010 00:00:00

Where is our sense of values in Bangladesh? We have ignored the salutary human endeavor of Musa Ibrahim who in his first effort climbed Mt. Everest, against a cruel environment totally unknown in Bangladesh! It is an example of determination, dedication and disciplined training that is second to none in the annals of adventure and achievement in Bangladesh! He has been totally ignored, by an ignorant(?) government, which showers gifts of cash, cars and land to the cricket team that had to toil ten years before managing to beat New Zealand in a one day series! Mind you, in test cricket, which really counts, our showing is still as poor as can be! All our positive showing is against Zimbabwe, a novice which has come to the test arena long after us!
Everyone got handsome cash award plus a brand new car for the one-day series win against New Zealand! Even the reserves and those who did not play, but were in the team, also got the award!
It seems that our powers that be go for popular games and sports in track and field events only. In contrast, this epic achievement in the annals of mountain climbing, achieved by Musa Ibrahim, has gone unappreciated and unrewarded!
I would request all our daily newspapers to set up a contributory fund for rewarding Musa Ibrahim. I am sure all readers will gladly contribute to such a fund, to reward the achievement of Musa Ibrahim in a handsome way that should shame our authorities, for their skewed sense of values!
