Scarcity of grazing land has resulted in the hardship of farmers to rear cattle in Bangladesh. As a densely populated country it needs large quantities of animal protein annually. In recent years Bangladesh has developed relations with its south-east Asian neighbour, Myanmar, by increasing import and export of commodities. Every year business between the two countries is increasing significantly.
Since Bangladesh needs hundreds of thousands of sacrificial animals like, cow, ox, bull, sheep and goat, especially on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. The government can look into the prospect of importing cattle-head from Myanmar. Myanmar has these animals in excess and has a limited market for export. When formal trading will be accelerated, the cattle farmers of Myanmar will get a good market in Bangladesh for their cattle. Formal import of cow, bull, ox, sheep and goat from Myanmar is feasible and less expensive by land. If such an agreement is signed between the two countries, it will be a win-win situation for traders of both the countries.
In this circumstance, I would like to urge the government to permit import of cattle from Myanmar before Eid-ul-Azha.
