THE deadline for SIM card registration has expired on May 31. The re-registration opportunity was given to help the cell phone users who failed to do it earlier. Now cell phone companies have to deactivate more than a million unregistered SIM cards.

The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission said that the opportunity has closed and won't be extended anymore. The unregistered SIM cards have been deactivated on the first day of June, it said.

I believe many people will support the BTRC's decision. Many people were callous not to utilise so many opportunities given to re-registrar the SIMS. Whatever the reasons such carelessness can't be rewarded. Either these people were callous or they were unwilling to take the opportunity. They have to realise that there has to be some discipline in the sector. Those who failed were simply irresponsible in their conduct.
