IS there anything we can do for more than 50 per cent of the country's population living in poverty?. About 70 million others have the capacity to earn their bread and butter and the ability to save Taka one a day for the poor. By contributing Tk one a day, or Tk 10 a month, they can, at regular intervals, generate a fund of Tk 70 million or Tk 700 million to help, in phases, resourceless families escape poverty.
Though it may sound impossible to many, such revolving funds like this one can be regularly be raised from the potential contributors by the government, showing its sincerity and reliability. With a transparent mechanism to mobilise and distribute the funds effecting needed modifications from time to time, and showing successes and failures, the government can encourage people to contribute.
