Land phone vs mobile phone

A few days back, I was going to Motijheel by bus, as we were stuck in a traffic jam, the passengers started a discussion to pass their time and the subject of price hike dominated their conversation.
Everyone was complaining about the soaring prices of daily commodities. One person demanded to know why in our country the prices always go up and never come down. A middle-aged passenger, however, said that there was a sector where price has come down drastically. So everyone gave the passenger a puzzled look and in reply he smiled and said that before the price of one minute mobile call was Tk 7.0 whereas, now we can even talk with mere 25 paisa for the same length of time!
Another passenger quipped that is why the tendency of blabbering is on the rise even at the state level, because talking has also become cheap nowadays. Another person joined in and said that he was happy with mobile service providers since in the land phone era he used to be so annoyed with the erroneous service of the state-owned telephone company. Getting a land phone connection was very difficult and time consuming then, but now one can get a mobile phone SIM within minutes without facing any hassle, he added.
Many people were wondering when mobile service providers have been able to win over a clientele of more than 650 million people in a very short period why the state-owned telephone company was legging behind. The government should think over the matter, as the private sector has been able to provide much better services in the communication sector.
