North Korean 'rocket' launch
April 16, 2009 00:00:00
THE North Koreans recently launched what they called was a space travelling rocket while their detractors, understandably alarmed, said they had actually test fired a ballistic missile. The latter is probably true but the North Koreans, in the wake of the Chinese successful effort recently, may insist that they are doing their own little bit to populate the universe.
The North Koreans say there was a satellite in the nose of the rocket which again people who don't like them, and trust them even less, say could easily be replaced by a nuclear warhead. We don't know whether their experiment with the 'satellite' worked but the incident brought a storm of protest from almost everyone specially the western powers, not least from South Korea and Japan. We are also told that the Chinese had discouraged the North Koreans before the launch but they had gone ahead anyway.
What is it that the North Koreans are trying to prove? That they are a super power because they have a small nuclear arsenal? The entire world knows they have little dealing with much of the outside world. Only the Chinese have a working relationship with them.
It is entirely true that the western propaganda machinery on one hand never forgets to mention North Korean 'tyranny' regularly, and on the other not only keep their media clean about renegade Jews committing atrocities everyday for more than half a century in occupied Palestine. They also coerce others to do the same.
Nevertheless, it is just as true that North Korea is a country with serious problems with much poverty. And yet we are treated to this senseless megalomania by the people who rule that country. It is, I feel, a complete waste of money and material which would have been best used for the citizens of the country.
