RECENTLY India has decided to stop exporting rice and wheat to Bangladesh. It is an alarm for Bangladesh that after the Tipaimukh Dam and the Indian High Commissioner's abrasive observations, this ban can be another threat to Bangladesh.
But Bangladesh should have no reason to feel itself let down by this kind of threats, as the government will find all of its citizens beside it to protest against all kinds of evil moves against our motherland. At the same time, the government should look for alternative sources to import all the necessary goods.
But the utmost priority should be given to gaining self-reliance in basic agricultural items. As achieving food autarky is an important part of the election manifesto of the new government, it is high time for it to implement the programme for this by taking proper short-term and long-term steps to feed this huge population.
